When it's time to practice or perform, one of the most important things to think about is posture. Posture isn't just standing up straight; it’s more like a dynamic balance.
Healthy practise means a long healthy playing life. At Munster Music Academy there is a strong emphasis on body awareness when learning an instrument. We incorporate elements of Alexander Technique when teaching students at all levels and instruments. Alexander Technique is the art of unlearning that which is habitual, instead of natural. World famous cellist Pablo Casals always asked himself when playing “What is the most natural way of doing this?”. This is the cornerstone of our teaching here at Munster Music Academy.
At Munster Music Academy we cover every corner of string and piano playing and its teaching with a game which appeals to the senses through a simple activity and/or movement which can then be reproduced with the instrument with greater ease. Approaching technical and physical problems in this order for beginner and experienced musicians is extremely encouraging, both for the brain and the pupil. We can already do this movement in everyday life and therefore this approach gives the student more encouragement and confidence to be able to recreate this action with their instrument.
Munster Music Academy provides regular instrumental tuition in piano, cello, double bass, guitar, classical flute, traditional Irish flute, tin whistle, recorder, saxophone, musicianship/theory, chamber music, adult introduction to music, and private music grinds for Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate examinations. We prepare our students for examinations held by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, The Royal Irish Academy of Music and TrinityGuildhall, UK.

All ages and abilities are welcome to apply. We can advise you in choosing a suitable instrument to learn and assist you in sourcing and purchasing your own instrument or availing of our economical rent-to-buy cello scheme.
